Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 23, 2026

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how UnchartedCareer ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects personal data in compliance with applicable data protection laws, including the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for users in the EU. By using our Service, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Policy.

2. Data Controller

The Data Controller is UnchartedEdge LLC, EIN: 37-2179798, located at 30 N Gould St Ste N, Sheridan, WY 82801.

3. Legal Basis for Processing

We process personal data primarily to perform our contract with you, to comply with legal obligations, or based on your consent where required (e.g., marketing communications). For EU users, this aligns with GDPR Articles 6(1)(b), 6(1)(c), and 6(1)(a).

4. Personal Data We Collect

  • --Account Data: Name, email, and password (hashed) for authentication and account management.
  • --Usage Data: Logs and cookies necessary for login sessions and basic analytics.
  • --Marketing & Attribution Data: To understand how visitors find us, we capture acquisition signals from your visit — referrer, UTM campaign parameters, the Google click identifier (gclid), a derived acquisition channel (e.g. organic, paid, AI-search, referral), and Google Analytics identifiers (client/session IDs). For visitors we detect as being in the EU/EEA/UK, these marketing signals are not captured unless and until you consent: analytics and advertising storage default to denied in those regions (Google Consent Mode v2), and we honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) and Do-Not-Track signals.
  • --Payment Data: Handled securely by Stripe; we do not store full payment details.
  • --Uploaded Content (CVs, etc.): Processed via our AI system (based on OpenAI and Google AI services) and stored in Firebase to allow access to analysis results (e.g., CV analysis, job fit scores, cover letters) for an improved user experience.
  • --Interview Practice Data (optional): If you choose to use camera-enabled interview practice, we process your webcam video, microphone audio, and the resulting transcript so our AI can generate practice feedback (including presentation and body-language tips). From this we derive non-identifying coaching metrics (e.g., general posture, eye-contact, and energy cues). We do not create face templates, voiceprints, or any biometric identifier used to recognize you, and we do not use this data to identify you. Camera analysis is strictly optional and requires your separate, explicit opt-in each session. Microphone-only (voice) practice is always available without a camera.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account data and analysis results (e.g., CV analysis, job fit scores, cover letters) in Firebase for as long as your account is active to provide seamless access to your previous analyses. If your account is inactive for 1 year, we will delete or anonymize your data. Uploaded content (e.g., CVs, job postings) is stored in Firebase only as long as necessary to provide the Service and may be retained as part of analysis results to enhance your experience, unless you request deletion.

Interview recordings: Raw webcam video is processed transiently to generate your feedback and is automatically deleted from our processing systems immediately after analysis completes; we do not retain raw interview video. Only the resulting practice report and derived coaching metrics (and, where applicable, the text transcript) are stored with your account so you can review past sessions. You may delete any practice session, including its transcript and derived metrics, at any time from your practice history or by contacting us.

6. Data Sharing & International Transfers

We share necessary data with:

  • --Stripe: For payment processing.
  • --Firebase: For authentication, database services, and storage of account data and analysis results.
  • --AI Providers (OpenAI and Google): For AI processing of the inputs you provide (such as CVs and job postings) and, for interview practice, your audio, transcript, and—only if you opt in to camera-enabled practice—video, solely to generate your feedback. This processing is not used by us to identify you or to build a biometric profile of you.

For camera-enabled interview practice, the data shared with our AI providers may include interview video, audio, and the transcript, solely to generate your practice feedback. Where data is transferred outside the US or EU, we rely on lawful transfer mechanisms such as Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent measures.

7. Cookies

We use essential cookies to maintain your login session, and — subject to your consent where required — analytics and advertising cookies (including Google Analytics 4 and Google Ads) to measure and improve the Service and our marketing. Consent is managed via Google Consent Mode v2: for EU/EEA/UK visitors, analytics and advertising storage default to denied until you opt in, and we honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) and Do-Not-Track. You can also configure your browser to block or alert you about these cookies, but some parts of the Service may not function properly.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction (e.g., GDPR for EU users), you may have the right to:

  • --Request access to your personal data.
  • --Rectify inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • --Request erasure of your data.
  • --Object to or restrict processing of your data.
  • --Data portability, where applicable.
  • --Not be subject to a decision based solely on automated processing, including profiling, where it produces legal or similarly significant effects.

You may exercise these rights by contacting us at support@unchartedcareer.com. You may also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority in your jurisdiction.

9. No Minors

We do not knowingly collect personal data from individuals under the age of 18. If you are aware of someone under 18 using the Service, please contact us to have their data removed.

10. Automated Decision-Making & Profiling

Our AI functionality may provide job fit scores or CV evaluations, which could be considered automated profiling. We do not make final decisions about your employment or career solely based on this data; the results are for informational purposes only. You have the right to obtain human intervention and to contest any automated decision where required by law.

11. Video & Audio Processing (Interview Practice)

Our interview practice feature can use your microphone and, optionally, your camera to help you rehearse and to generate educational feedback. This section explains exactly what we collect and how we handle it.

  • --What we process: your webcam video (only if you opt in to camera analysis), microphone audio, the interview transcript, and derived coaching cues such as general posture, eye-contact, gesture, and energy estimates.
  • --Explicit opt-in: Camera analysis is never on by default and is not bundled into your general acceptance of our Terms. You must separately and affirmatively opt in before any camera analysis begins, and you can decline or turn it off at any time. Voice-only practice is always available.
  • --No biometric identification: We do not create or store faceprints, facial-geometry templates, voiceprints, or any biometric identifier used to recognize or verify your identity, and we do not sell or share such data. The feature is educational coaching, not identity verification.
  • --No emotion, personality, or hiring assessment: The feedback offers presentation and communication tips. It is not designed to infer your emotions, honesty, personality, mental or physical health, or your suitability for employment, and it must not be used as an employment, psychological, or medical assessment tool.
  • --Retention: Raw webcam video is processed transiently and deleted immediately after your feedback is generated; we do not keep raw interview video. Only your practice report, derived coaching metrics, and (where applicable) the transcript are retained with your account, and you can delete them at any time.
  • --Vendors: To generate this feedback, relevant video, audio, and the transcript may be processed by our AI providers (OpenAI and Google) under their applicable terms, solely to produce your feedback.
  • --Accessibility: You can complete interview practice without a camera. Disabling video does not block your access to interview practice.

For interview practice involving video or audio analysis, we maintain an internal data-protection / AI risk assessment and apply data-minimization measures. If you have questions about this processing or wish to withdraw consent, contact us at support@unchartedcareer.com.
